iGrow1400 - Issues Due To Lightning

THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED AND REPLACED BY THE PEARL CONTROL SYSTEM.

https://link4controls.com/link4_controllers/

If your Site has been affected by Lightning, you may be experiencing some of the following symptoms:
  1. Controller Screens not displaying information, but manual toggles work equipment manually.
  1. Controllers not working altogether, Serial Port Error on your LinkConn 1000 Software.

What we have discovered is that the pulse of power crawls through the Communications Wiring and jumps along your daisy Chained Network affecting one Controller after another.

**CONCLUSIONS**

  • Main Module could be affected and may need to be replaced.
  • Communication Wiring may be affected and needs to be metered to make sure that there’s continuity.
  • USB To Serial Converter may be compromised that’s why you’re getting the Serial Port Error on iControl

1ST We need to view the extent of the damage:

Disconnect communication link between controllers that are Unresponsive.

If equipment can still be operated by manual toggle switches then utilize that method temporarily.

2nd we want to try to determine if the USB to serial Converter is compromised.

We want to get at least 1 controller that is functioning – talking to LinkConn 1000 to do this, we have to go down the network chain & see if we can temporarily change one to be a Site Master and get them both talking displaying information.

Are any controllers responsive? (Displaying Screen – and appear to be partially functioning)

For the ones that are, you may want to change the networking daisy chain path excluding the unresponsive ones to see if this will mend the communication link.

You will also need to meter the RS485 wiring line for continuity.

To prevent future issues with Lightning, we recommend to utilize devices to protect your system.

Surge protectors to protect power surges, and RS485 Isolated Repeaters to prevent surges which occur commonly thru the 485 network.
