To upgrade your firmware on your iGrow 1400 controller, you would need to contact Link4 Sales or Support and pick up the following:
- 1000 Series Programming Cable
- Firmware USB to Serial Converter
- RFU Software.
Once these items have been obtained, you can update your controllers firmware by simply getting the firmware from our website or by calling support so we can send you the file.
STEP 1 - Examine your computer to see if there is as serial port on it. The serial port has nine pins as shown below. If yours does have a serial port, connect the serial cable as shown below.
If your computer does not have a serial port, then it will be necessary to use a serial to USB adaptor cable. Locate the USB port on your computer and plug in the USB to serial converter cable.
STEP 2 - If your computer requests drivers to use the USB to serial converter, insert the firmware upgrade USB into PC. The necessary drivers are located on the USB in the folder labeled “FTDI driver”. USB Converter Cable, you can also download them at http://www.ftdichip.com/
STEP 3 - Plug the serial cable into the USB to serial converter cable.
STEP 4 - Connect the serial cable to your iGrow1400. Be sure to use the connector labeled “PROG” (and NOT the one labled “DIAG”)

STEP 5 - Once the cable is connected to your iGrow1400, double check to be sure the cable is correctly seated on the header (not shifted left to right or front to back). Note the orientation of the cable, the red stripe on the cable should be towards the right side of the iGrow1400.
STEP 6 - Be sure your iGrow1400 is plugged into wall power and Insert the Firmware Upgrade USB.
STEP 7 - Once you plug in your USB, the screen below should automatically appear. If not, use Windows Explorer to Explore your USB Drive.
The last step is to unplug the programming cable from the iGrow1400 and cycle the power by turning the iGrow off and on again. The Firmware upgrade is now complete. If successful the USB and or serial cable can be removed to the
computer.
When plugging the iGrow back on, confirm the new version has been installed simply by looking at the welcome screen when its powered back on. (if you miss the welcome screen you can always get to it by hitting the Help button 2 times.)
